Terms and Conditions (Local Roots)

1. INTRODUCTION Welcome to Local Roots. This website (www.localroots.co.za) is owned and operated by Local Roots (Pty) Ltd (“we,” “us,” or “our”), a private company registered in the Republic of South Africa.

By accessing our website and purchasing our subscription boxes, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not use our services.

2. SERVICE AND SUBSCRIPTION TERMS Local Roots offers a monthly subscription service delivering artisanal South African snacks.

  • Automatic Renewal: By signing up for a subscription (Monthly, 3-Month, or 6-Month), you expressly acknowledge and agree that (a) your subscription has an initial and recurring payment feature, and (b) Local Roots will automatically charge your payment method at the start of each billing cycle unless you cancel your subscription before the renewal date.

  • Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time via your “My Account” page or by emailing support@localroots.co.za. To avoid being charged for the next month’s box, you must cancel before the 1st day of the upcoming month. (e.g., To skip the February box, cancel by January 31st).

3. PRICING AND PAYMENT

  • All prices are quoted in South African Rands (ZAR) and include VAT unless otherwise stated.

  • We reserve the right to change our pricing. Any price changes for existing subscribers will be communicated at least 30 days in advance via email.

  • Payment is processed securely via our third-party payment providers (e.g., PayFast/Yoco). We do not store your full credit card details.

4. SHIPPING AND DELIVERY

  • Delivery Area: We currently deliver to physical addresses within the Republic of South Africa only.

  • Dispatch: Boxes are generally dispatched between the 5th and 10th of each month.

  • Risk of Loss: The risk of loss and title for items purchased pass to you upon our delivery of the items to the courier. Please ensure your delivery address is accurate and that someone is available to receive the parcel.

5. RETURNS AND REFUNDS (CPA & ECTA NOTICE)

  • Perishable Goods Exception: In terms of Section 42(2) of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, the standard 7-day “cooling-off” period for online returns does not apply to the supply of foodstuffs, beverages, or other goods intended for everyday consumption (perishables).

  • No Returns on Food: Due to health and safety regulations, we cannot accept returns of food items.

  • Damaged Goods: If your box arrives damaged or if items are missing, you must contact us at support@localroots.co.za within 48 hours of delivery with photographic proof. We will, at our discretion, provide a replacement product or a store credit refund.

6. ALLERGEN DISCLAIMER

  • While we curate products from high-quality local artisans, we cannot guarantee that products are free from allergens. Our boxes may contain products made in facilities that process nuts, dairy, gluten, soy, and eggs.

  • It is your responsibility to review the ingredient list on each individual product package before consumption.

7. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY All content included on this site, such as text, graphics, logos (including the “Local Roots” brand), images, and software, is the property of Local Roots or its content suppliers and is protected by South African and international copyright laws.

8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, Local Roots shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with the use of our service or products.

9. GOVERNING LAW These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
