How It Works

What is Local Roots? Local Roots is a monthly discovery box celebrating South African artisans. Every month, we curate 5-7 premium, shelf-stable snacks (like artisanal biltong, honeys, nougats, and crackers) from small-batch producers across the country and deliver them to your door.

Can I choose what goes in my box? Part of the magic is the surprise! We carefully curate each month’s box around a specific theme or region, so you get to discover products you might not pick yourself. We promise it’s always delicious.

When will I be charged? You are charged immediately for your first box when you sign up. For subsequent months, your subscription renews automatically on the 1st of the month.

Shipping & Delivery

When do you ship? We ship in batches to ensure fresh, coordinated delivery for our community.

  • Dispatch: We ship all boxes between the 5th and 10th of each month.

  • The Cut-off: If you order before the 4th, you get this month’s box. If you order after the 4th, your first box will be next month’s edition.

How long does delivery take? Once dispatched, delivery typically takes 2-4 business days for major centers (JHB, CT, DBN) and 3-5 days for regional areas. You will receive a tracking number via email as soon as your box leaves our hands.

Do you ship internationally? Not yet! Right now, we are focused on spreading the love within South Africa.

Dietary & Allergens

Do you cater to specific diets (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Halal)? Currently, we offer one standard “Local Roots” box that showcases the best of everything. While many of our products happen to be vegetarian or halal-friendly, we cannot guarantee that every box will meet specific dietary requirements.

What about allergies? Because we source from various small kitchens, we cannot guarantee our boxes are nut-free, dairy-free, or gluten-free. Every product in the box comes with a full ingredient list and allergen warning on its packaging. Please read these carefully before snacking!

Managing Your Subscription

Can I skip a month? Absolutely. Going away on holiday? You can “Pause” or “Skip” a month easily in your My Account portal. Just make sure to do it before the 1st of the month.

How do I cancel? We’d hate to see you go, but you can cancel anytime. Log in to your account and select “Cancel Subscription.” There are no cancellation fees. Please note: if you cancel after a renewal payment has gone through, you will still receive that final box.

Can I give this as a gift? Yes! Local Roots makes an incredible gift. You can purchase a “Pre-paid Subscription” (1, 3, or 6 months) at checkout. Just enter the lucky recipient’s shipping address, and we’ll handle the rest.
